Born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Francis Abramson has trained since he was seven. Before opening Rilion Gracie Doral in 2017, he taught Judo, Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense to more than 700 students in Rio.

His teaching joins the precision of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with a strong Judo influence in the standing game. Clear fundamentals, individual correction and steady progress shape every class.

This is the story behind the professor, the lessons carried from Rio and the principles he wants every student to take beyond the mat.

Professors at Rilion Gracie Doral
A life shaped by Jiu-Jitsu, from Rio de Janeiro to Doral.

Francis grew up immersed in the culture of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Rio de Janeiro. Years of training, teaching and competing formed an approach centered on understanding—not memorizing—each movement.

In South Florida, that experience became a school where technique, discipline and community develop together.

“Technique before force. Understand why it works, and it works under pressure.”

Professor Francis Abramson, Co-Founder and Head Professor

The professor: Francis Abramson

Co-Founder, Rilion Gracie Doral

As head professor, Francis translates decades of mat experience into a teaching method built around precision, context and progressive practice. His background in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo connects the standing and ground phases of the art.

Every detail is tested. Every student is expected to understand the reason behind the movement. That understanding gives students the confidence to adapt under pressure rather than depend on force.

The goal extends beyond technical progress. Students learn patience, discipline and the ability to stay composed when a problem becomes difficult.
